Nicole Lord wants to be a good wife, but there's a difference between being supportive and supporting her husband, who quit his job to write a screenplay she's never seen. He won't even help take care of their son, leaving Nicole to run the house and work full-time.

Sacrificing a personal life for her career is how Shannon Rigg became a VP at her firm, but she wonders now whether she made the right choice. An exciting new relationship with a great guy convinces her that it might not be too late—until he drops a bombshell that has her questioning whether she really can have it all.

Although Pam Eiland adores her husband, she feels restless now that the kids are grown. Finding sexy new ways to surprise him brings the heat and humor back to their marriage, but when unexpected change turns her life upside down, she'll have to redefine herself. Again.

Through romance and heartbreak, laughter and tears, the girls of Mischief Bay will discover that life is richer with friends at your side.

drey’s thoughts:

The Girls of Mischief Bay is a story about three women who’ve formed an unlikely friendship from attending a fitness class together, their lives, and how they show up for one another when needed. Nicole is a wife who’s wondering what to do about her husband’s self-centered existential crisis, because she’s so exhausted from staying on top of her business, their child, and the house that she’s headed for a nervous breakdown. In addition, she puts on a good face for everyone, including the husband, because who wants to admit that things aren’t perfect?

Shannon’s giving a new guy a chance while stepping away from a one-sided relationship (if you can even call it that). I loved that she’s self-aware enough to realize that she wants more out of life, even as I hated that she was questioning whether she’d waited too long. The age-old question of career-vs-relationship never seems to be one the guys ponder, so why do we have to?

Pam’s story was heartbreakingly sad. I won’t say much more because I don’t want to give anything away, but I am so very glad she went on that cruise and met the group of ladies she did, when she did.

The biggest impression that The Girls of Mischief Bay left on me is that we don’t have to do it all, alone. Our girlfriends are there for us, and will be there for us if (or when) we need to admit that everything isn’t all hunky-dory, which somehow makes it a little bit easier to bear the load, if that even makes sense. Knowing they’ll be there is oftentimes enough to keep us going, and the best of them will point out the hard truths we’d prefer to not hear lest we never get off that bad ride. Because, y’know, perfect and all that…

So, thank you Susan, for reminding us that we’re not alone, and thank you to my girlfriends, for being you. xoxoxo
